The ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF is preparing to change the data used to value its shares each day. In a Form 8-K filed July 7, the sponsor said it had given notice to terminate its CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate—New York Variant licence effective August 31.

The scheduled transition

  1. Termination notice delivered

    The sponsor notified CF Benchmarks.

  2. FTSE agreement expected

The filing describes this as the sponsor's intention.

  3. Current licence scheduled to end

The existing pricing benchmark licence terminates on this date.

The benchmark sits inside daily NAV

Pricing benchmarks aggregate market data under defined rules so a fund can calculate net asset value consistently. Changing the administrator can alter inputs and methodology, but it does not by itself change ARKB's investment mandate.

The two future dates also matter. The filing documents an intended transition, not a completed switch, and should be updated if the sponsor changes the timetable.

Next reporting

  • The executed FTSE licensing agreement and any revised fund disclosure.
  • Confirmation that the new benchmark is in use after the current licence ends.
