The Department of Statistics Malaysia released the Index of Industrial Production, July 2026 on 9 September 2026. The index was up 4.7 per cent in July 2026, and the OpenDOSM dataset lists year-on-year growth for the month at 4.657 per cent before seasonal adjustment and 4.499 per cent after seasonal adjustment. For the first seven months of 2026, the index increased by 5.7 per cent compared with the same period of 2025, when the corresponding figure was 2.3 per cent.
Growth in July was led by the Manufacturing and Electricity sectors, which increased by 6.4 per cent and 5.0 per cent respectively, while Mining declined by 3.2 per cent. Export-oriented industries grew 6.7 per cent after 7.6 per cent in the previous month, and the Manufacture of computer, electronics & optical products kept double-digit growth of 14.0 per cent. Domestic-oriented industries rose 5.8 per cent in July 2026 after 6.4 per cent in June 2026. Crude Oil & Condensate production was at negative 13.1 per cent in July 2026, against -3.3 per cent in June 2026.
The monthly picture is weaker: the index turned downward by 2.0 per cent from the preceding month, in contrast to the positive 5.5 per cent recorded the month before. Export-oriented industries declined 3.1 per cent month on month, reversing a 10.7 per cent increase in June 2026, while domestic-oriented industries increased 0.4 per cent against 1.2 per cent in June 2026.
In the OpenDOSM ipi dataset for July 2026, monthly growth was -2.003 per cent before seasonal adjustment and -0.137 per cent after seasonal adjustment. The corresponding June 2026 figures were 5.544 per cent and -0.496 per cent. FinPrisme's reading is that the swing from a 5.5 per cent rise to a 2.0 per cent fall should not be read on its own as a sharp reversal, since the seasonally adjusted column shows small declines in both June 2026 and July 2026, of -0.496 per cent and -0.137 per cent. On that adjusted basis the index still moved lower in July 2026, so the dataset does not show a monthly recovery either.
Year-on-year growth of 4.7 per cent in July 2026 was also below the 5.7 per cent pace recorded for the first seven months of 2026 as a whole. The release does not state a cause for the monthly decline, and this analysis does not assign a cause.
